THE official event may have come to an end but there are still plenty of places in London where you can continue to celebrate the beer drinking bonanza that is Oktoberfest. Prepare your stomach for steins, schnitzels and strudel — Prost!
1. Octoberfest Pub
Claiming to have the longest Oktoberfest celebrations in the world, this pub caters for thousands of beer fans every year. The atmosphere of Munich’s beer halls is recreated here with a live Oompah band, frauleins and imported German beer and cuisine. Don a dirndl or lederhosen, dance on your chair and enjoy the closest thing to the real Oktoberfest right here in London.
2. Bavarian Beerhouse
From Wednesday to Saturday each week until 26 October, the Beerhouse is alive with Oktoberfest celebrations. Just like the beer halls of Munich you can pre-purchase a seat to this popular event. Boasting a menu that includes ten varieties of schnitzel, it’s the ultimate foodie experience.
3. Zeitgeist
More interested in fine fare than traditional dress up? Zeitgeist is for you. While the sophisticated décor of this gastro pub bears just a hint of patriotism, the drinks menu is strictly German and features some of the best ales from the motherland.
4. Herman ze German
For a quick fix of Bavarian cuisine all year round, head to one of Herman ze German’s two London locations. Sausages (snag in a roll), currywurst (chopped snag with toppings) and various high carb sides (fries, potato salad, pretzels) complete the artery-clogging menu.
5. Katzenjammers
Katzenjammers features nine beers on draught ranging from 4% strength to 7% . Seasonal beers and 25 bottled ales add to the variety, while there is a great selection of German and Austrian wines on offer. It’s not all about the booze (just mostly) and you can enjoy excellent food and authentic entertainment on Friday nights.
