More than just an accessory: picking the perfect pair of eyeglasses

MANY people can be overwhelmed when on a quest for the perfect pair of eyeglasses. Things like face shape, eye colour, and even personality can all factor into your purchase. This can be doubly hard for first time buyers, who may find the variety of eyeglasses a bit daunting.

That’s why it’s a good idea to cover all your bases when shopping for a new pair of glasses. Much like any other accessory, you must choose a style that not only looks good in accordance with your natural attributes, but also fits comfortably and is in line with your own personal style.

What About Face Shape?

There is a school of thought that face shape is perhaps the most important consideration when choosing glasses. While this may be up for debate, it certainly does play into how well your glasses will fit you. A great guideline to follow is to always pick a frame shape that contrasts with the shape of your face. If the two are similar, it may cause the frames to overwhelm your features.

You can also use the frame shape to enhance the look of your face. For instance, you may want to thin out a particularly round face. To do so, choose a pair of glasses with a wider frame featuring sharp angles. This will elongate the face and give the appearance of a thinner, more chiselled look. Conversely, a person with an angular face may want to consider oval-shaped or circular frames. These will do wonders to soften the facial features in a way that is vastly appealing.

The Eyes Have It

You can also seek out glasses which compliment your eye shape and colour. This is of particular importance if you have small set eyes. The wrong frames can overwhelm smaller eyes, making them practically disappear behind your lenses. Wider eyes look great with heavier frames, while smaller eyes are stunning with a pair of delicate, wire-rimmed glasses.

Eye colour should also be considered when shopping for glasses, but it is important to know which colours work best together. By matching hues, you can take your already vibrant eye colour and make it stand out even more, similar to matching eye shadows to eye colour. Those with darker eyes look great in shades like deep brown and grey. Of course, you can always go full colour with a pair of red or yellow shades.

Warm vs. Cool

Skin tone is also a factor when choosing a colour for glasses. Much like hair colour, cool and warm tones go better with their complementary colours. Warm colours encompass a range of shades, such as reds, oranges, and browns. These colours are best suited to those with warm skin tones, while cooler colours, such as blues and greens, look best on those with cooler skin tones.

There are a few different methods of determining one’s skin tone. It’s really all about the undertone of your skin, which you can determine by looking at your palm. Is the skin a sort of orangish-yellow hue? Or is it more of a blueish color? The former would belong to a person with a warm skin tone, while the latter would be a cooler shade.

Personal Style

Fortunately, glasses are available in numerous styles for just about every occasion. Whether you’re into the vintage look, or want something chic and classy, there is an appropriate style just right for you. The important thing is to look at many glasses in order to get an idea of what you find appealing. It’s usually a good idea to purchase two sets of glasses. Not only is it practical, but that way you can choose one pair for day and one for evening.

Choosing a pair of glasses should be a fun experience. With just a little research, you are sure to find a pair that suits both you and your lifestyle.
