Billy Joel first came to Australia back in the 1980s when he performed with Elton John. This year, he will be coming back to perform for one night only in Melbourne.
Thus far, the singer will perform at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in December where Billy Joel promised to perform his most popular hits one last time.
To date, Billy Joel shared that he will only be performing the songs that are best known to his audience. He added that it would not be wise to sing songs that his audience possibly won’t know.
“You’ve got to do songs that people know. You can’t just do all your obscure album tracks because a lot of people may not know them,”
Right now, tickets are only expected to be available from the 4th of July. Telstra members will have access to the pre-sale tickets by the 27th of June as reported by 7News.
According to NME, the show forms part of the Always Live initiative created by the Victorian government in encouraging economic growth following the coronavirus pandemic over the past two years.
Reflecting on the last time in Australia, Billy Joel shared that it has been quite a while. Right now, the piano man artist has two young children who are four and six years old. They would be his youngest children.

“I haven’t been to Australia for a long, long time. My youngest kids [are] four years old and six years old, and I think they would love Australia. I’ve always wanted to take them there, and now is my chance to show them. I figured, it’s for the kids.”
So far, it is extremely rare to have a global artist perform for one night only and all the way to Australia at that. However, given the Foo Fighters success earlier this year, taking the chance with Billy Joel did not come with many risks.
