Constance Wu has taken a break from social media for three years following the backlash she faced when her popular television series fresh off the boat was renewed.
Right now, Constance Wu has come back to Twitter. When she returned, shared that she is a bit afraid to make a return. Following the harsh criticism, she got from her peers and the Asian American community at large.
To date, when the fresh off the boat series got renewed for another season, Constance Wu did not respond with the expected excitement about the show.
So far, Fresh off the boat has been one of the actresses career defining roles. As the actress then moved on to play roles in Crazy Rich Asians as well as Hustlers.
Back then, Constance Wu shared that she did not share the optimism about the renewal as she had been trying to get another project right before the announcement.
“I had this moment of heat where I got upset because I had to give up a job I had been looking forward to and had been chasing for a while,”
According to News.com, the actress revealed the reason for her hiatus from social media. During this time, Constance Wu shared that she tried to commit suicide after the horrific responses to her then tweet about fresh off the boat.
“Luckily, a friend found me and rushed me to the ER. It was a scary moment that made me reassess a lot in my life. For the next few years, I put my career aside to focus on my mental health. AsAms don’t talk about mental health enough,”
