Over 20 years later, the castle still resonates with Australians all around through Kerrington’s family dynamic.
According to a study conducted in 2020, Australians found that owning a home was of much importance to them. As for the Kerrington family, living close to an airport or not, they found pride in having a place called home.
With the films greatest lessons on standing up for what’s right and most of all being proud of your home regardless of its state, the film addresses a lot of what we consider modern Australia.
Apart form its comedic genius, the title of the film essentially encapsulates what it is to have a household filled with people who are proud of you regardless of what you may have achieved. Moreover, most importantly, the film shows us that a home is not just a building but home is the people you share it with.
Essentially, home is a feeling instead of a materialistic quality it possesses. While many Australians find it empowering to own their own turf it is even more so in today’s day and age.
