GOTYE’s massive hit Somebody That I Used To Know – which claimed number one in this year’s Triple J Hottest 100 poll – is continuing to tear up charts around the world.
The song, featuring Kimbra, hit number one in the UK on Sunday to make it a ninth territory at the top following glory in Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Ireland and Denmark.
Gotye’s hit currently sits at number 12 in the all-important US Billboard chart while its video has already amassed more than 67 million views on YouTube.
Albums sales are following suit with Gotye’s Making Mirrors climbing to number 20 on the US Billboard chart and looking to break the top 20 in the UK.
The singer – also known as Wally de Backer – is currently on a mammoth solo tour of Europe and the US, which will culminate with two shows at the California’s Coachella music festival in April.
Kimbra is also riding success in the US after signing with Warner Music in America and promoting her album Vows. The success of the single has prompted the singer to join Gotye on his European dates.
She tweeted: “Somebody That I Used to Know is now No. 1 the UK Charts! Wow. Conveniently I am off 2 London on Friday w @gotye for his European dates! Yay!”
Kimbra was also recently named One To Watch by Rolling Stone magazine after winning Best Female at the ARIA Awards.
Gotye’s next single Easy Way Out will be serviced to radio in Australia on February 20.
