He might have forgotten the name of the man he was about to criticize, but Russell Brand laid into Tony Abbott calling him a ‘raving lunatic’ and saying Australians must be very unhappy with their prime minister.
“I am pretty sure he is an absolute raving lunatic and the people across Australia are unhappy,” Brand said in an interview with Amelia Ballinger of Nine.
Brand was interviewed while promoting his new book, Revolution.
While Brand needed reminding of the what the Australian prime minister’s name was, he didn’t forget his criticisms of Abbott. At a point he had to be reminded of the name of the man he was calling a ‘raving lunatic’.“Who’s your one who’s in charge of you now?” he asked Ballinger before launching into the criticism.
Brand’s book explores world politics and challenges capitalism as a ‘system that isn’t working’.
“I asked some people who know a lot about how systems can work whether or not the system we currently have, global capitalism, is the best one for the majority of people and the experts go no it’s a really bad one and it’s only good for a few people,” said Brand.
Bat fans and ‘Brandalists’ have expressed their own displeasure when Brand recently abandoned the Million Mask March protest to attend an important theater gig.
In an interview with the BBC, Brand said, “I went along before visiting the opening night of Made In Dagenham, my family are from Dagenham”.
“I was in the difficult position of being at an anti-corruption, anti-democracy protest and then saying ‘my god, I’ve got to rush, I’ve got to be at the theatre’.”
Brand has gained both fans and non-supporters for his views on society.
