THE Neighbours theme tune is set to get a revamp in an international contest held between Australia and the UK.
Channel Ten and Fremantle Media will search for a talented signer to record a new version of the opening theme music to Australia’s longest running soap.
A shortlist of 10 winners will be chosen and announced on 18 March. Five finalists will come from Australia and five from the UK, where the neighbours from Ramsey Street also enjoy a dedicated following.
Each shortlisted singer will have their version played at the start of the show over the course of a week, with the audience picking their favourite through an online poll.
One winner will be picked from each country by the audience, and will then face off in a showdown between each nation.
A panel of music industry experts will choose the winner, and the winner’s version will become the new Neighbours theme song from 15 April.
“Forget the Ashes, this will be the real competition between Australia and the UK, as Neighbours has a devoted following in both countries,” said Neighbours Executive Producer Richard Jasek.
