Shonka Dukureh is a singer and actress that recently made her big break in the new Elvis biopic released in June. Her character Big Mama Thornton went viral for her version of the song Hound Dog.
Thus far, Shonka Dukureh is now assumed to have died of natural causes as the local police do not suspect any foul play.
Right now, actress Shonka Dukureh leaves behind two children. To date, the autopsy on the singer’s body is still in the works to determine her cause of death.
Presently, reports say that Shonka Dukureh was found unresponsive in her apartment by one of her children. One of them rushed to a neighbor who then called 911.
So far, News.com shares that Shonka Dukureh made her only film debut this year. The Elvis biopic is currently the only film credit she has to date.
To date, the singer and actress appeared alongside Doja Cat at Coachella this year to perform Vegas. Shonka also appeared in the video for the song.
Presently, many have shared their condolences to her family. Alongside some of the tributes was Baz Luhrmann who is the director and producer of Elvis.
“A favorite word of Shonka’s, in daily use, was blessings, and I along with the entire Elvis cast, crew, and musical collaborators, feel truly blessed to have had time with her.”

Thus far, Shonka is reported by The Guardian to have an Education Degree and a Theatre degree from Frisk University. She is reported to have taught second graders.
