Snapchat starts 100k Sound fund initiative for independent musicians

Snapchat launched Sound back in 2020. This allowed users to add little sound or audio clips into their videos which is similar to Instagram and Tik Tok.

Thus far, social media has made it all the easier to become viral and well-known within minutes. Hence Snapchat started its Sound Creators initiative.

Recently, Snapchat announced that they will be starting an initiative. That is, to support independent artists who is yet to be signed to a record label. 

The initiative is reportedly a way to encourage musicians to pursue their careers in music while creating a bigger fan base for the respective artists. 

“We want to support the independent and emerging artists that are driving creation on Snapchat. By providing meaningful funding and creative support, our goal is for artists to feel empowered to continue creating and pursue a career in music.”

While users of the platform are allowed to upload tracks via Distrokid. Presently, this will allow artists to have their tracks to become more popular. Which means free exposure to their content.

Much like Tik Tok, the amount of record label deals to use songs have since expanded since the launch of Sound on Snapchat. So far, it makes it easier for content to go viral.

Given the tracks does well, some tracks stand a chance to be included on Snapchat Lense or the spotlight feature. 

According to Social Media Today, the 100 000 will be awarded to the artist whose tracks do well on the platform. Snapchat announced that this will take place from the month of August onwards
