The best Sculptures by the Sea for you to see [in pictures]

The annual public art event kicked off on 6 March at Cottesloe Beach in Perth for the 11th year. Sculpture by the Sea sees large, innovative creations taking over the beach until 23 March as a means of rousing a sense of community.

Much like other free public events such as Symphony Under the Stars in Sydney’s Domain, Sculpture by the Sea appeals to the broadest audience, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators in the course of its run.

Founding Director, David Handley explains on his website how the initial idea behind Sculpture by the Sea was to “dilute the commercial world by having more free things”.

Over the years the event has demonstrated the ingenuity of Australian artists, bringing them into close contact with artists overseas.

This year Cottesloe Beach hosted the incredible artworks of 69 national and international artists.
