The G’Day USA Black Tie Gala was conducted in tandem with the international ceremony of the 4th annual AACTA Awards for the first time this year.
Actor Chris Hemsworth was named 2015’s G’Day LA honouree at the red carpet event at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday.
Tributes were also paid to two USA based Australians, producer Greg Coote and actor Rod Taylor, who died in the last year.
Black comedy drama, Birdman won four of the seven AACTA International Awards handed out at the event. The film won best film, best director, best screenplay and best actor for its lead, Michael Keaton.
Guests at the LA event included the likes of Nicole Kidman, Tim Minchin, Rachel Griffiths, Geofrey Rush, Rebel Wilson, Jackie Weaver, Philip Noyce and Australian Las Vegas-based group Human Nature.
Also in attendance were Australia’s Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, former US ambassador to Australia Jeffrey Bleich, chairman of the LA World Affairs Council Terry McCarthy, and Australian Consul-General in Los Angeles Karen Lanyon.
G’Day USA brings new business, policy, entertainment, innovation and tourism events to eight cities in the United States with the goal to enhance bilateral collaboration and realise new business opportunities.
G’Day USA’s purpose is to provide commercial outcomes for both Australia and the US, ranging from exporting Australian goods to be sold on US supermarket shelves, US involvement in Australian business, and the launch of Australian businesses in the US.
