Underwater colours; art exhibition at the Great Barrier Reef

A QUEENSLAND artist is holding an underwater art exhibition in the Great Barrier Reef to inspire others to protect it.

Abstract expressionist painter BJ Price says the reef is his “creative obsession and endless muse” and will show six reef-inspired works in an underwater gallery from 10-13 December.

“When I dive on The Great Barrier Reef and become part of it, the Reef speaks to me. Through my art I answer its call, so others may hear its evocative voice,” Price says.

A six-metre inflatable turtle will mark the spot where divers can view the works, printed on aluminium sheets, at Reef Magic’s Marine World platform on Moore Reef, about 50 kilometres off Cairns.

“The health of the Great Barrier Reef is of huge concern to me,” Mr Price said in a statement.

“It is my intention to use this exhibition to show how the reef can inspire great creativity and stimulate inventive solutions when addressing reef health issues.”
