Aphasia is a disease that affects an individual’s way of life by impacting their speech ability. Bruce Willis has recently been diagnosed with the disease and has now decided to retire.

Bruce Willis steps away from acting

After nearly four decades long, Bruce Willis has decided to step away from acting due to his Aphasia diagnosis. His daughter took to Instagram to share the news.

Right now, the cause of Aphasia is not yet known and can be caused by a variety of reasons. The most common reason is a stroke which would affect the blood flow to the brain.

As a result, brain cells deteriorate and affect speech. This can take the form of being unable to form words or simply finding difficulty to find the words you want to say.

How does Aphasia impact you?

Not only does it affect your speech, but it also affects your writing abilities. As reported by The Guardian, Aphasia does not impact intelligence in any way.

While Bruce Willis has just announced his diagnosis, many were wondering what Aphasia is. Presently, it has gotten much attention lately. As mentioned above, it can be caused by a variety of reasons.

If it is caused by a stroke, chances are that the bloodstream is being cut off from the brain. When the blood flow isn’t reaching the brain, brain cells die out. Causing difficulty in retrieving words. That is, causing Aphasia to occur.

So, Aphasia will cause you to sound less like yourself but you’ll essentially still be you. What you can do to improve the difficulties is to do speech therapy. Generally, many improve within a few years or even months.

After four decades, it is surely sad to see Bruce Willis give up his career but it has all in all been a good run.
