He started out as being responsible for the activities of international organisations in Venezuela and from there he began to create his own companies. Alejandro started his career at a company specialising in the energy sector and in the exploration, production and trade of oil and its derivatives. The company has branches in the U.S., Europe, Middle East, South America and Africa, and Alejandro was one of the key people in managing the company’s relationship with its Latin American clients.
Betancourt later worked at Guruceaga Group, which was dedicated to international trade in goods, finance, real estate and farm. His responsibilities were to manage all of the company’s new business.
BGB Energy & starting his own company
Alejandro later became Director at BGB Energy, a subsidiary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries in Venezuela. He actively took part in the Central West Interconnection project in 2006. The aim was to connect the natural gas transmission systems in the eastern and central region of the country with the transmission system in western Venezuela in order to meet gas demand in that area and promote gas exports to countries like Colombia.
As the director, he was put in charge of the sale of thirteen turbines in various different regions of Venezuela. As a result, he generated more than $50 million dollars and developed close and important relationships with other energy companies in the country.
After a decade of experience in the sector, in 2007 Alejandro founded his own private company, which specialised in the engineering, procurement and construction of thermoelectric plants. From this, he created jobs for over 200 employees. His energy company has gained a strong reputation and has since expanded beyond the borders of Venezuela. Alejandro now looks to turn his company into a major technology provider for all of Latin America.
