This visa allows foreigners who have graduated within the last 6 months from an Australian educational institution with a degree, diploma or trade qualification (a minimum of 2 years full-time study in Australia) to remain in Australia for 18 more months after their Student Visa expires.
The purpose of this visa is to allow a graduate who does not meet the criteria for a permanent General Skilled Migration visa to use this time to gain skilled work experience or improve their English language skills.
The holder of this visa may then apply for permanent residence at any time if they are able to meet the pass mark on the General Skilled Migration points test.
The applicant must be under 50 years of age, and have the skills, attributes and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
