When a shark bit in to Bruce Lucas’s arm, what did he do? He punched it in the face.
Surfing off Salwater Beach on the northern NSW coast, Lucas was attacked by what is believed to be a man-eating bull shark. With the shark latched on to one arm, Lucas began punching it in the nose repeatedly until it let go.
Speaking about the shark attack, police inspector Neil Stephens told Seven News: “He reached over and punched the shark multiple times with his right fist to make the shark let go.”
Lucky to be alive, Lucas is reportedly in a stable condition in hospital, his left arm heavily bandaged.
According to locals, bull sharks are more active hunters when waters are brackish and muddy, as they are presently following heavy rain over the weekend.
