Yes taxes are grim and the budget cuts leave you queasy but guess what; Australians still have it pretty darn good!
In fact Australians have it so good they are scientifically proven to be the happiest of all industrialized nations on Earth. Yes, on the whole Earth (and depending on your convictions — happiest people in the Universe).
The latest results from the OECD’s Better Life Index has shown, for the fourth year running, that living in Australia could actually make you a much happier person.
If you were feeling happy in the “Lucky Country”, you have a good excuse. Of the 11 factors considered in the research, which included 36 industrialized nations, Australia scored above average on all but one life category.
The life categories are; civic engagement, environmental quality, health status, housing, personal security, jobs and earnings, education and skills, subjective well-being, social connections, and income and wealth.
Aussies seem to be less satisfied in their work environment coming in at the bottom 20% of those countries poled while 77% were generally satisfied with their lives.
But the report warns that the recent negative reaction to the Abbott government could bring an end to Australians’ run of ‘luck’ and happiness.
