A crocodile that is believed to have been responsible for the death of a spear-fishermen has been killed.
The body of 35-year-old Warren Hughes was found on Monday after his small boat was discovered without him on Saturday near Innisfail in north Queensland. It is understood he had been attacked by a crocodile while diving.
Rangers captured and killed a four-metre croc on Tuesday night in relation to Mr Hughes’s death, according to the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection.
The attack occurred over the same weekend and near the same town as the crocodile attack on 18-year-old Lee De Paauw.
Mr De Paauw says he jumped into the Johnstone River’s crocodile inhabited waters to impress a female British backpacker, Sophie Patterson. He escaped with a serious injury to his arm after punching the crocodile.
“Risking your life, there is nothing funny about that. I’m not impressed by somebody risking their life,” Ms Patterson told Channel 7.
