Code brown will be in effect in hospitals by midday on Wednesday. Hospitals will soon be under immense pressure and need to use all their resources wisely. Just last week, an individual called emergency services in order to get a PCR test. Hospitals are trying to avoid any situation like this.
This comes as the Omicron outbreak is starting to become much worse. Health workers will not be able to take leave as the majority or over 4000 health workers are home because of positive tests.
So, the code generally only comes into effect when there is a severe weather outbreak or conditions. This will allow more doctors to be hands-on with critical covid cases amid the Omicron surge.

Simultaneously, doctors will be able to save resources for more serious cases. A code brown will prevent doctors from unnecessary hospital visits and will instead allow health workers to focus on the critical cases.
Currently, there are 1, 152 covid hospitalizations. This number is expected to increase with time. A further 22 deaths were recorded in the state.
What seems to be an increasing need to formalize the healthcare system, is the only thing that will help curb any unnecessary visits to the hospital as explained above. The government also admitted that it may have to withdraw some covid fines made in error.
