Epstein-Barr virus is now the likely cause for multiple sclerosis. This phenomenon is still under study and is only an hypothesis at this point. Researchers have, however, possibly found a link to why this may be the case.
According to Tech Explorist, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. It attacks the myelin sheaths protecting neurons in the brain and spinal cord. When having this disease your vision, balance and mobility may be affected.
Right now there are talks of actually preventing multiple sclerosis by treating the Epstein-Barr virus. To get to this conclusion, researchers needed to find the direct links to the cause of multiple sclerosis. In their study they found that many who have been infected with the Epstein virus have a likely chance of developing multiple sclerosis.

In order to prevent this from happening, taking actions on EBV early on can be a good start to avoiding it. If the necessary steps are not taken, the more likely you are to develop multiple sclerosis which will only start to surface after ten years of being infected with the disease.
At this time, the only direct link to the two harmful diseases has one simple explanation. That is, the Epstein-Barr virus turns certain immune cells called B cells against the host. While there is not an effective way to cure EBV there are antiviral drugs to take to protect yourself.
