We spoke to the experts at 1st Move International about what to research before a big move.
They came up with five things you can do ahead of time to make the move as stress-free as a move possibly can be.
Research schooling
If schooling is needed, do some research about schools in the area you are moving to. Proximity to a desirable school may influence where exactly you settle. Research the possibility of so-called ‘catchment areas’ determining your location.
Medical care
Proximity to medical care is important, whether you need it often or just in an emergency. Research hospitals and doctors in the area you are intending to move, and ascertain how close you are to them.
Parks and recreational activities
Determine what makes you enjoy your time-off, and try and find a house near to an area that will allow you to indulge in your hobbies and pastimes. If you’re an avid cyclist or hiker, research the areas that have the best cycle routes or hiking spots. This will also help you integrate into your new community of like-minded people.
Airport/town access
If you are going to be working in an office every day, or if you need to travel often, research houses in areas that are close to your work or from which you can easily access the airport. Alternatively, research the proximity to public transport routes that can help with your daily commute.
Research the weather
If, like most people, your moods are affected by the weather, make sure that the area you are moving to has overall weather patterns that you like. If you have any choice in the matter, find somewhere that has a climate that suits your family’s needs and desires.
And whilst they can’t help you make the decision of where to live, 1st Move International will do its best to help you get your belongings to wherever you are going, so that ‘faraway’ feels like home in no time.
