The myth that kangaroos hop down Australian city streets has well and truly been brought to life by the coronavirus crisis. Police captured footage of this marsupial taking itself for a tour of Adelaide’s CBD on Sunday.
The normally bustling city roads of the South Australia capital have been near deserted since Australia went into virtual lockdown in March to prevent the spread of the coronaviris and keep cases of COVID-19 in check.
A video of the day-tripping kangaroo bouncing through the heart of Adelaide was posted by police on Twitter with a welcome touch of cop humour.
“Protective Security Officers tracked a suspect wearing a grey fur coat hopping through the heart of the Adelaide CBD this morning. He was last seen on foot heading into the West Parklands,” the post says.
With social distancing measures in place and strict travel restrictions in force, Australia has so far escaped the worst of the global coronavirus pandemic. As of Tuesday, the country had recorded 6,645 cases of the COVID-19 disease, with just 71 deaths.
