Minimum wage workers have been put under severe stress when it comes to the cost of living and getting their day-to-day needs. Now, they won’t have to worry about this anymore.
So far, the Fair Work Commission made the decision that the minimum wage is increased to 5.2 percent. Which would be effective from the 1st of July. This means Australians will see a rise from $20.33 to $21.38.
Right now, this is an incredible weight off the shoulders of minimum wage workers. This change comes nearly ten years after plans were spoken of to increase the minimum wage.
While this is good news, the Reserve Bank is expected to increase inflation to a further 7 percent. So far, much more changes in price hikes are set to take place sometime this year.
As for minimum wage workers, the money they will actually be seen for a change. Previously, this is what made these families particularly vulnerable.
To date, the Head of the Australian Council of Trade Unions Sally McManus shared that this is a step in the right direction as families will no longer feel the burden of working more than one job to survive.
“This decision is one that is reasonable and it is fair, It means that for low-paid workers, [they] will have a better ability to pay rent and pay for the groceries and to pay for energy bills as well.”

According to ABC News, during the election campaign, the new Prime Minister Anthony Albanese strongly backed the idea of increased wages. After a decade, this plan has finally come to fruition.
“The truth is that many of those people who are on the minimum wage are the heroes that saw us through the pandemic, They deserve more than our thanks, they deserve a pay rise, and today they got it.”
