Labor Senator Sam Dastyari congratulated One Nation figurehead Pauline Hanson on her immanent return to Australia’s parliament with an invite to join him eating Islamic snacks in his western Sydney electorate.
On a tense election night, the ALP senator was a panelist on Channel 7’s coverage when the feed crossed to a victorious Pauline Hanson, who claimed a seat in the Senate, in Queensland.
Dastyari, who immigrated from Iran with his parents when he was four in the wake of the Islamic Revolution there, couldn’t help himself, goading the notoriously xenophobic Hanson.
No halal for Pauline then. Guess she just ‘don’t like it’.
A taste of things to come…
In an interview on Channel 9’s Today show on Monday, Ms Hanson reaffirmed her call for a Royal Commission in to Islam.
“I think we need, as a nation, to determine what impact this is going to have on our culture and on our way of life,” she said.
“Let’s determine is it truly a religion or is it a political ideology trying to undermine our culture,” she added.
