Australian tourist Sara Connor has been found guilty in a Bali court over the death of local police officer, Wayan Sudarsa.
The 46-year-old mother of two from Byron Bay was sentenced to 4 years in prison over the incident at Kuta Beach in August 2016.
The judge presiding over Ms Connor’s case found her guilty of fatal group assault, according to Fairfax reports, rejecting her claim that she was merely trying to separate her boyfriend and Mr Sudarsa as they fought.
Rather, the judge concluded, Ms Connor was helping her partner in the fatal fight.
It is unknown at this stage whether Ms Connor will appeal the decision.
Her DJ boyfriend David Taylor has already been convicted of fatal group assault and sentenced to six years jail.
According to the British national’s father, he will not appeal.
The incident occurred on the popular Bali beach when, according to Mr Taylor, a scuffle broke out with the policeman over Ms Connor’s missing wallet.
Mr Taylor admitted to striking Mr Sudarsa with a bottle and binoculars but said he thought he was still breathing when the couple left the beach and did not know the seriousness of the local man’s injuries.
Ms Connor admitted to being in possession of Mr Sudarsa’s identity cards and cutting them up after the incident. During the trial she pleaded that she did this to prevent the identity theft of Mr Sudarsa’s however the judge rejected this saying instead she had acted out of guilt.
Ms Connor had also burned the clothes she and her partner were wearing during the incident.
