Family, friends and cricket legends gathered to honour Australian cricketing legend Richie Benaud at his private memorial ceremony in Sydney.
Guests included Ian Chappell, Dennis Lillee, Brett Lee, Shane Warne, Michael Clarke and Mark Taylor.
Benaud’s wife opted for a private affair, saying that the cricketing icon would not have wanted a state funeral.
In the memorial booklet, Benaud was described by his family as “a special person who means so much to each of us in many different ways.”
Mark Taylor spoke at the service. “My lucky break in life, especially my young life, was being befriended by Richie Benaud,” he said.
Bill Lawry, Benaud’s buddy on the field and in the commentary box, said that Benaud was a “joy to work with”.
