20 people had to be rescued on Wednesday after they were trapped when a rollercoaster malfunctioned at Movie World on the Gold Coast in Australia.
Emergency crews were called in to retrieve the stranded thrillseekers after the marquee Arkham Asylum ride seized.
According to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, 20 people were stuck in their seats some 20 metres up in the air.
All of the passengers were safely removed from the ride with no reported injuries.
Movie World said it was “conducting an evacuation on the Arkham Asylum Coaster due to a mechanical issue with the chain”.
“There are no injuries to any guests on board and we are in direct communication with the guests,” Movie World management said in a released statement following the scare.
The incident comes just months after the tragic accident at the nearby Dreamworld theme park where 4 people were killed when the Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned.
Movie World’s rides were given the all-clear just in December after an official safety audit was conducted by Worksafe Queensland in response to the Dreamworld disaster.
