Victorians will face up to $90, 000 fines under new laws

Victorians will not be impressed to know about the new laws introduced to better control the state of Victoria.

Premier Daniel Andrews will be able to declare a pandemic as well as chief health officer Martin Foley.

According to Daniel Andrews, these laws are implemented to create a more transparent and accountable system.

At this time, Premier Andrews is able to exercise these laws as they would still need to come into effect.

Victorians new laws

As previously seen, those who deliberately and knowingly broke the law, faced fines as a consequence. This time around, fines issued out will be far greater than Victorians have seen before.

Additionally, fines include prison sentences for up to two years for those who knowingly break the rules. However, an exception will be given to those who are facing financial hardship. In these cases, individuals may apply for lesser fines.

While the laws are considered to better the state of Victoria, attorney-general Tim Smith feels as though this is wrong and would not at all be for the safety of the people.

“This is nonsensical, it’s an abuse of power”

The new law will replace the state of emergency powers which will expire on December 15. At this time it would have been in place for 21 months.
