Lance Franklin is officially one of the six elite members of the VFL and the AFL to score his 1000th goal. The moment was somewhat a de-ja-vu experience as the same thing happened when he scored his 100th goa earlier in his career.
After Lance made history for himself, the SCG was filled with red and white. As fans swarmed to the field in celebration of his 1000th goal. According to The Guardian, it took Lance over 10 minutes to leave the delirious crowd.
Before entering the game, Lance Franklin had exactly 996 goals to his name. But came to a lot closer to his extreme goal record within the first quarter.
With only six minutes left to the game, fans could not help themselves but express their joy by going onto the field. This moment won’t exactly happen again, that’s for sure.
Thus far, Lance Franklin will join Tony Lockett, Gordon Coventry, Jason Dunstall, Doug Wade, and Gary Ablet in the exclusive club.
