Australian leaders have echoed those around the world paying tribute to Nelson Mandela.

As tributes pour in to congratulate the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the arrival of their first child, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has revealed what Australia will be sending the royal baby that has it all - a bilby.

The governor-general of Australia, Quentin Bryce, visited with the Queen, young Australian entrepreneurs in East London, and addressed an Australian Business networking lunch in a visit to the UK last week.

The Queen is carrying on with official engagements while Prince Philip remains in a London hospital including granting an audience to the governor-general.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has written to Prime Minister Julia Gillard warning her against naming a new governor-general before this year’s federal election. Government insiders are speculating Abbott intends to nominate former mentor John Howard to the position if the Coalition is elected in the September poll.
